I started with fairview at fist, but now I'm thinking this game came out first then fairview. Regardless let me say what I have to say for this one.
I really enjoyed this one. It was difficult compared to most of your games and it got me spooked at some moments. Plus I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that we're finally going DOOM MODE WITH A SHOTGUN and shooting down everything in our way. Haven't used a gun since "The more bit know zero", so it's nice to see that.
So our story here takes place at the "McMillan Tree Lot"
(Note:) You titled it "McMilian", but dialouge says "McMillan", so which one is it. Nothing clearly to bad, but I noticed it at the start.
We play as Cynthia, a mild mannered tree saleswoman who faces off against supernatural entities, because everyone in Fairview does, my god. I like the fact that we see Mr. Boyd, the Demon looking Dog from Vermander Curse. (I LOVE the call back to that) and he's buying a nice tree to warm up his family. Before ending the night, Cynthia knows that one client is still here and has to rescue him, down a repeating corridor of trees, which very much reminded me of the "PLAY MAZE", a repeating area with safe areas that are familiar but not real.
When it comes to gameplay, it's fun just shooting. I thought it was weird when I had to use space to shoot. Left click is usually for that, but I know it's always for interacting to it's fine. I like the fact that I got infinite ammo too, so turn up the DOOM MUSIC. I instinctively shot the red nutcrackers at first and I was glad to, because they start moving when you run past them. Blue one's move towards you, and Green ones take 2 shots to kill. It;s quite simple to understand all that.
I like how the trees slowly grow larger as well as the corridor which makes it hard to see oncoming enemies. You can essentially just swerve past enemies, but it's not fun if you didn't shoot them of course. Coming into the final run, I did like the fact that some nutcrackers moved at fast speeds, which makes them unavoidable so they must be shot (nice touch) and the overall atmosphere and growing trees were also great.
LORE TIME:
I remember asking about the Gretel wood tree in the last game and I'm really happy you brought it back to here. No wonder it felt like the "Play Maze" with it's repeating yet longer sections the deeper you went into the maze. Plus, just like the statue, it calls upon unsuspecting people and lures them in. Since the statue was just a small part of the Gretel wood tree, the base of the statue, it could only call weak minded people like elderly and children, but knowing that this was the main tree, I knew it was capable of luring anyone.
I did like the introduction of the character Monty. I really like his design, he's seems like a cute fella hehe. Also he's very chill, like he was escaping with his hands in his pockets like nothing's happening.
In conclusion, this was a fun and challenging game. I definitely think this was more fun than Fairview files, but Fairview was more scary compared to this one. I can't wait to see what else you've got cooking ZED.
